Today we had a rehearsal of our scenes set within our cell, with our main actor Sophie who plays Anna. We blocked out cameras and played with the visual and set for the show. We used a stand in for one of our other main characters, Dr Elisabeth. Below are the images a sample of one of the scenes.
In the scene (scene 6) sample below Anna (Sophie) is seen attacking the resident doctor Dr Charles and being restrained by an orderly. This blocking allowed us to see where camera movements could happen and also how best to utilize the lighting and set.
SCRIPT SAMPLE (from this scene)
DR. CHARLES (cont.)
Don’t be so stupid. Get down from there and hand it over, before you do any further damage.
ANNA
(determined) What is this place? I don’t belong here, you’ve made a mistake so get me out.
Dr. Charles lowers his arm.
DR. CHARLES
My name is Dr. Charles and this is Moorbury Asylum for the mentally unstable. You’ve been under my observation here a couple of weeks now. I would recommend you follow my every order. First, hand that over.
Anna lowers her arms and steps off the bed. Dr. Charles takes a step towards her. She uselessly takes a swish at him with the metal shard with it not reaching him.
ANNA
Stay back!
DR. CHARLES
Cutting me will not get you out of here. Hurt me and I will see to it that this place becomes your own personal living nightmare. I’ll ensure every breath you take pains you, and all words lose meaning. You would be so broken down that you won’t even know what a spoon is. We are here to aid you back to sanity, possibly integrate you back into society. (slowly) So put the metal down.
This rehearsal was essential as the cell is a relatively small set and needed to be blocked multiple times to be able to use the space as well as incorporate some exciting camera shots. It allowed me to see which cameras I would be able to fit into the space and at what rate I would need to cut between them. The JIB was big issue as is a large piece of equipment however I felt using only two of the studios cameras and the JIB worked better than using 3 normal studio cameras. The JIB allowed us to get some very interesting high angle shots and to be able to see the struggle between Anna and the orderlies from a better angle.
