Frequency Festival 2017
From September to November 2017 I worked as part of Frequency Festivals core team as a marketing intern. This was such an exciting experience in which I got to see first hand the running of a digital art and culture festival. From social media to event management I had the opportunity to work across the festival. From pre-production of the festival to collating data after the festival my role grew me and allowed me to gain valuable experience.
I found a passion for events and worked to help them run as smoothly as possible and show the amazing work in the best light. For example Jean Abreu's preview performance of 'Solo for two' at The Blue Room at The Lawn. I oversaw communications between box office and the festival as well as venue layout and dressing to the guest list.
I also worked on print, distribution and design. This included the distribution of all print material and communicating effectively with venues across the UK to promote the festival. I also distributed to venues in Hull, Doncaster, Sheffield and Lincoln. I spoke to many local business and ensured the continued support of the festival whilst allowing our promotional material to be on show and create a relationship with the festival.
One of the main things I worked on, especially on the lead up to the festival was the website design and posts. http://frequency.org.uk/ I enjoyed this immensely and spent a lot of time in ensuring the design, layout and copy of the posts and text fit with the theme and festival itself.
Copy was a huge part of the job and an enjoyable one, From checking artist interpretation panels to copy for our pocket guide I realised how the smallest of errors can effect the reception of printed and online material.
The role was so vast that I cannot possibly detail all I took part in. However another highlight for me was cafe conversations. This allowed me the opportunity to not only discuss the work with the artists themselves but with other interested parties. This allowed me to grow in confidence and be part of something incredible. Learning about the artists inspirations and background helped not only me but others with their confidence of their work.
I loved my experience with Frequency Festival and the Threshold Studios team, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity which I will draw my experience from for a long time to come.
